How many time you would like to edit a title of a document, have a clean display with verity search engine, be concistent with a database and edit meta, create simple web image gallery without database dependency, read image descriptions ? That seems simple.

Metadata are now very common and you would like just to edit them without looking for a library for each file format. Metadata CFC will give you the ability to read/write meta with coldfusion.

I started this project with the support of OLE2 documents (97-2003 word files DOC, excel files XLS, powerpoints PPT PPS). I added PDF support, like cfpdf but with the possibility to write description, tilte and more. It should work with coldfusion7 and maybe more version.

Next step it's the support of XMP, IPTC, EXIF metadata.

This project will require some libraries or other tools to work. I will try to use the java classes use with coldfusion and be simple as possible.

*UPDATE POI classes from poi-2.5.1-final-20040804 to poi-3.0.1-FINAL-20070705

*Itext is used for PDF, I have to figure wich version.

*an XMP library will be required, I am looking wich one, maybe XMP core could be used

*EXIFTOOL, amazing Perl module for images meta management
